In this work I have made bronze cast ear plugs. Ear plugs are an important object to me. I sleep with ear plugs every night and have done so since I was 12 years old. Ear plugs help me to get to sleep. I like the sound of my pulse and breath but I don’t like hearing any noise including the sound of the bed ruffling as I move around to find my comfort spot.
Foam and metal behave similarly they both absorb sound however metal allows sound to travel while foam blocks it. The bronze ear plugs offer something different, its coolness and heaviness is soothing. Sometimes I will let the bronze ear plug sit within my ear for a little while, particularly on a warm day.
